Facebook 101: How To Optimize Your Page

When it comes to marketing your small business, social media is a free, easy and engaging way to make direct contact with your current and potential customers. And what is the number one social networking platform? Facebook. According to Statista, as of July 2020, Facebook had 2.603 billion—yes, billion—users.

So, if you know your audience or customers are there, Facebook is most likely a place you’ll want to engage and connect with them. But how can you stand out among all the others? How can you create a page and Facebook presence that catches people’s eyes? Check out these helpful tips on how to optimize your business Facebook page.

Pick a profile picture.

Profile pictures stand out when they are crisp, clean and easily recognized. Don’t forget that your profile picture is the first thing a client sees at the top of your Facebook page, as well as the thumbnail image displayed next to all of your updates. You can approach this by thinking about a client scrolling through their feed and immediately knowing that it was your business that posted, simply by the image. What is the best image? Try a square image with high resolution that represents your company easily—such as your logo.

Choose a cover photo.

Your profile picture isn’t the only important image on your page. Along with your profile picture comes the cover photo. This is larger in scale, so be sure that it is high-resolution, clear and compelling at the top of the page. Notice how your cover photo appears on both a computer screen and on a mobile or tablet device. Cover photos can be an inside look at your business, a new promotion or another format of your logo. Your possibilities are endless—get creative.

Customize your apps.

Once you have the basics of your page up and running, you can start to customize it. This is where the real fun starts. Check out the various apps you can add to your business page and decide which ones will work best for your company. Adding apps is easy. Simply go to the Facebook App Center and select Add App to Page. Once you have your apps added, you can rearrange them under the tabs at the top of your page to give it a customized look.

Define who you are.

As a company, you can use the About section on your Facebook page to your advantage. This allows users to take a look at your page and learn what your business is about before actually giving it a like. Be sure your About section is brief, yet descriptive. Maybe even add Values, Goals or Milestones to give customers a few more details. .

Post content consistently.

Make the most of your business Facebook page by keeping your posts current and up to date. You can do this by sharing important updates, releases of new products and services, promotions, giveaways and calls to action. Don’t be afraid to add content that is fun but still relevant to your business to help you to stand out from the crowd.
